Annual CPD points requirement

In terms of Clause 6.1.1 of the FAMAC Constitution, ordinary members of FAMAC are “members who have complied with the CPD criteria determined by FAMAC from time to time, who have been granted accreditation by FAMAC, and who have paid the annual subscription fee”.

In terms of Clause 10.1 of the Constitution, the executive committee shall, from time to time, determine the minimum CPD criteria to be met by members of FAMAC.

The accreditation requirements for current members in 2025 was published as:

  • Attend two general meetings per year
  • Complete two NABFAM/FAMAC accredited workshops (and/or conference) per year
  • Proof of annual membership fee.

The executive committee is the process of conducting a review of our members’ list against those requirements and we will, in due course, contact members directly in respect of their 2025 CPD requirements.

The executive committee met on 21 February 2026, during which meeting it was resolved to bring the FAMAC CPD requirements in line with those set by NABFAM and ADRPSA, of which FAMAC is a constituent member.

NABFAM’s CPD requirement is that each member must acquire at least 15 CPD points annually, of which 5 CPD points may be from 5-hour pro bono mediation sessions.

NABFAM’s CPD allocation is as follows:

Nature of activity CPD Points allocation
Attendance of training seminars, half-day seminars, and one-day seminars 1 CPD point per hour (max 5 points per event)
Case presentations, webinar presentations, presentation at group discussions (for presenter) 2 CPD points per hour (max 5 points per annum)
Community service mediation (pro bono) 1 CPD point per hour (max 5 points per annum)
Publications in professional journals (in current year) 5 CPD points per publication
Conference presentation (regional or national) 2 CPD points per presentation
Conference presentation (international) 5 CPD points per presentation
Attendance of group discussions (eg AGM, board meetings) 1 CPD point per hour (max 5 CPD points per annum)
Attendance at conferences 5 CPD points per full day (max 10 CPD points per annum)
Postgraduate study in mediation related subject (e.g. Masters or PhD) 15 CPD points (upon successful completion of degree)

The draft ADRPSA rules for continued accreditation at this stage require that mediators acquire between 8 CPD points for mediators in their first year of registration and 12 CPD points in their third and subsequent years of registration, with points allocated in a manner similar to those allocated by NABFAM.

Therefore, at a meeting of the executive committee on 21 February 2026 it was resolved that for 2026 and further, each member will be required to obtain a minimum of 15 CPD points in order to retain their FAMAC accreditation.

Members are reminded that in addition to FAMAC meetings, workshops, training sessions and the like, they may accumulate CPD points by attendance of NABFAM accredited events presented by sister organisations such as Social Justice Association, SAAM, and Kwa-Zulu Natal Society of Mediators.  Members are responsible for providing proof of such attendance.
