Short bio

Grant Gunston has been a practising attorney since 1995, based in Cape Town. He has all round experience in litigation, family law, commercial law, conveyancing and the administration of estates. Realising that litigation did not always give the outcomes that clients need, Grant obtained training and has been accredited as both a commercial and family mediator, by ADR Group (UK), Conflict Dynamics and FAMAC. He is a founder member of the Association of Independent Mediators, an organization of lawyers who promote mediation in their profession, and is on various mediation panels, both commercial and family. Amongst these, Grant is on a panel that conducts voluntary mediations for the Children’s Court in Wynberg on a regular basis. Grant has been involved in various TRAINING initiatives: • He has presented a number of 5-day training courses for the Law Society of South Africa (both Commercial and family mediation); • He was involved in co-presenting a pilot 3-day training course in mediation skills for prosecutors in the Western Cape in December 2012, • This led to the formalising of a 5-day course in Restorative Justice and Mediation skills offered by the JUSTICE COLLEGE, which Grant has also co-presented in Cape Town and Pretoria • He presents on mediation to various forums.
